On Sunday night, Chris and I watched a movie called The Bucket List. I’d never even heard of it but I would highly recommend it to anyone. With Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, there really isn’t anything to dislike (though its not especially high budget, other than the actors). That said, its a heartbreaking story that is bound to leave you in tears – especially if you’ve had any experience of losing someone to Cancer.
It got me to thinking however, what would be on my bucket list, if I suddenly found out I was going to die. In fact, Chris and I had a conversation in bed about it, following the movie. I think for most people, there is a realistic bucket list and there is an unrealistic bucket list. There are the things you’d like to do, that seem obtainable – and then there are the things you’d like to do, but would probably require winning the lottery for. I suppose in a lot of ways, a bucket list can be a little like a “if I won the lottery” list.
Anyway, it got me to thinking about how I’d like to make a bucket list. It’s not really something that can be done overnight (unless perhaps you find out you’re going to die), but instead over a period of time. In the movie, Edward (Jack Nicholson) and Carter (Morgan Freeman) compile a list together – meaning there are elements of both of them. I won’t be doing that, but at the same time I’m sure reading through other bucket lists, might inspire me for my own ideas.
So starting today, I’m compiling two lists. The Realistic Bucket List & The Unrealistic Bucket List. Please note, that some things I’ll be adding to my Unrealistic list, is more because its not something I intend to pursue or even try, even though I’d like to do it, not necessarily because its actual unobtainable. I’ll be adding to them over time and when I have an update to share, I will. In the meantime, I’d love if you wanted to comment with any Bucket List ideas that you have, or that you think would be good to add. This will definitely be a work in progress!
