After such a busy Christmas period, it’s hard to believe that we’re already well into January. This time of the year is often the bleakest as if you’re anything like me, you may have spent a little too much on fun trips out and of course the Christmas shopping on anything from kids’ presents to pieces of furniture!
And whilst I’ve already spoken about refreshing my style on a budget, it’s equally important to take care of your inner life and that’s why I’ve made an effort to implement some positive resolutions for the New Year and here’s what I’m going to try to do.
One thing that I’ve heard a lot about in the past few months is something called mindfulness. This is an old Buddhist philosophy that encourages us all to start living in the present, rather than dwelling on past mistakes and fretting about the future.
It seems that a good way of achieving mindfulness is to find an activity that allows you focus completely on one particular task, rather than trying to take care of the kids, cook dinner and do the hoovering! The increased popularity of adult colouring books seems to mirror this new awareness of being mindful, but many crafting activities such as knitting can help us achieve that mythical mindfulness!
Sleep my way to happiness
Whilst it’s good to be industrious in our spare time, it’s also highly necessary to be able to unwind properly too. And few things are as important to our health as sleep which has the amazing ability to rejuvenate our bodies and help our minds too.
Although we’re supposed to achieve between seven and eight hours of sleep per night, I find that it’s not so easy. But I’m determined to sleep better in 2016, so I’m going to try and follow a few of Bedstar’s tips on making bed-time a little more fun which include lighting candles and wrapping yourself in a new duvet, and you can find out more here about other fun ways to get some quality rest in the new year.
Staying clean and lean
Once you’ve managed to make the most of your mattress by having a good night’s sleep, I’ve decided it’s important to also try and little eat a little healthier in 2016 too. Rather than gorging on takeaways and freezer food, I’m looking to get a little more slender this year and I’ve been investigating some of these Clean and Lean cookbooks that should hopefully help shed a few unnecessary pounds!
So whether it’s becoming a little more mindful, aiming to spend more time between a mattress and a duvet, or even just eating my way to health, I’m hoping for a truly peaceful 2016!
