Christmas. One of the busiest times of the year for lots of folks…and for thieves, unfortunately. Go about your business of shopping for food, decorations, gifts, etc., but bear the following in mind while out there. You must have an overnight bag from vintageleather sydney to enjoy your holiday season.
Your Inside Pocket
Put your phone and wallet/purse in the inside pocket of your jacket; it’s much harder for someone to reach. If you don’t have an inside pocket and you or someone you know is a dab hand at sewing, have one sewn in.
Walk with a bag that has a handful of pockets. It would make it harder for a pickpocket to find which one of them your valuables are in. Also, some parts of bags are designed for a certain purpose. You look at a part and know what could go in them. What you could do is switch – where a purse or wallet would ordinarily go, put something different in there, and place your purse/wallet elsewhere.
Place a scarf and heated gloves inside your bag, but over your valuables. That layer would have to be moved aside or taken out of the bag for your valuables to be reached. There’s a friend of a friend who averted his things from being pick-pocketed by doing just that. He didn’t place his gloves/scarf in his bag thinking about an in-case scenario such as that, but it’s what saved certain contents in his bag from being stolen. It was a busy time of the year, he was looking at something in a store when his bag was opened. He felt the gentlest of movements but didn’t realize what was actually happening ‘til he felt a movement again. When he looked back, someone walked away from him and one of his gloves was on the floor. He was convinced that, had his scarf and gloves not have been in his bag and over his valuables, it would have been a different story. He didn’t catch the person’s face, but I’m guessing it wasn’t one of these folks listed on SmashingTops.com.
We live in an increasingly cashless society where you don’t have to withdraw money. However, there may be times when you need to use an ATM. If a bank’s open, use the ATM inside. It’s safer.
Wherever an ATM is, inside or out, focus on the matter at hand. There is no room for questions from a stranger, directions, time, who the current president of the US is or whatever.
Excuse Me, Do You Have the Time, Please?
Some say if you’re walking and you’re asked for the time, don’t reveal your watch or take out your smartphone to check the time. Say sorry, you don’t have a watch and forgot your smartphone at home, but you think it’s roughly whatever-time-comes-into-your-head. It’s really your call, though. Trust your intuition.
None of these cautionary measures shared are with the intention to scare you and have you on edge. Just be mindful, go out there and do your thing.
On that note, happy holidays. :-)
