Should your friend become dependant on alcohol in order to cope with their problem, then this means enrolling them on an alcohol detox program right away. By doing so, your friend will be able to achieve a safe and supportive withdrawal from alcohol, which will ultimately leave them in a better frame of mind and better equipped to face their problems head-on.
Eliminate their triggers
Triggers are all the things that make your friend feel low, sad, or anxious. However, they might not be physical, but they can cause serious damage to your friend’s mental health. If you truly care for them, you should make it your job to eliminate all of the things that trigger your friend and force them to worry or stress about their problem and life in general.
If your friend was alcohol-dependent, for example, eliminating their triggers would involve:
- Stripping their home of alcohol
- Ensuring that the local stores know their face and do not sell them any alcohol
- Not drinking alcohol yourself while around them
