Only two articles of the main withdrawal agreement have changed from the November 2018 text and the amendments are minor. On Wednesday, Germany and France pledged to maintain strong unity in talks with Britain over its future relations with the EU. Following the UK`s bomb scare the day before to violate international law with the EU withdrawal treaty, the Franco-German couple said they were on the same side. The withdrawal agreement also contains provisions for the United Kingdom to leave the Convention setting the status of European schools, with the United Kingdom bound by the Convention and accompanying regulations on accredited European schools until the end of the last academic year of the transition period, i.e. at the end of the spring semester 2020-2021. In particular, this protocol does not prevent the United Kingdom from entering into agreements with a third country that grant preferential access to that country`s market on the same terms as products manufactured in other parts of the United Kingdom. The Northern Ireland Protocol, known as the Irish Backstop, was an annex to the November 2018 draft agreement outlining provisions to avoid a hard border in Ireland after the UK`s withdrawal from the European Union. The protocol provided for a provision of the safety net to deal with the circumstances in which satisfactory alternative arrangements were to come into force at the end of the transition period. This project has been replaced by a new protocol that will be described as follows. After an unprecedented vote on 4 December 2018, MEPs ruled that the UK government was not respecting Parliament because it refused to give Parliament full legal advice on the consequences of its proposed withdrawal terms. The focus of the consultation was on the legal effect of the “backstop” agreement for Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom with regard to the CUSTOMS border between the EU and the United Kingdom and its impact on the Good Friday agreement that led to the end of the unrest in Northern Ireland, including whether , according to the proposals, the UK would be certain that it would be able to leave the EU in a practical sense. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the centuries-old diplomatic cornerstone that “agreements must be respected” is “the basis for prosperous relations for the future.” Despite this, the EU and the UK have committed to a future trade agreement and the transition period can be extended by another two years (if extended by two years, it will end in December 2022).
(b) If it is not possible to reach an agreement on the inclusion of the newly adopted act in the relevant annex of this protocol, consider any other possibility of maintaining the proper functioning of this protocol and making all necessary decisions to do so. The UK has launched the formal process of withdrawal negotiations by formally announcing the European Council`s intention to leave the EU. The reception of the agreement in the House of Commons ranged from cold to hostile, and the vote was delayed by more than a month. Prime Minister May has received a motion of no confidence within her own party, but the EU has refused to accept further changes. The European Parliament should approve any trade deal, and the chairman of the largest legislative group said that any deal with EU lawmakers would have no chance if the UK.
