I’m so excited right now, that I’m more like a child.
I’m awake and its 7.30am. I have no reason to be up right now, in fact we’re not even leaving to go on holiday until this afternoon – not even starting to pack the car until lunchtime. But ever since my eldest daughter woke me at 7am, I just wasn’t able to get back to sleep, I felt fidgety and restless in bed and so now I’m up and writing this.
Today – this afternoon – we go on holiday. We drive all the way from Lincolnshire, down to Dover. Tonight we stay in a Premier Inn before getting up in the morning and catching a P&O ferry, taking us over to Calais. When we get off I will be driving to DISNEYLAND PARIS!!
Now you might think I’m being completely childish and probably I am. But there are several important factors you should take into consideration before judging me. First of all, this is the first holiday I have taken the children on since splitting with my ex almost 3 years ago (except for 2 nights in London but even that my mum mostly paid for). Secondly, I have planned and paid for, in its entirety, this whole trip – which is a big deal considering I’m a stay at home, single mum. And finally, and possibly most importantly, its FREAKING DISNEY!!
I have been before to be fair though. In fact the whole family has. We once went for a week in the Dordogne (south-west France) when the kids were one and four. We drove all the way up from where we were staying, to Disneyland, from 4am in the morning till 10am. We then spent the day in the Park, till about 7pm – nipped via Paris itself so I could say I’d seen the Eiffel Tower and then drove back – getting in around 7am the next morning. It was a fun but exhausting trip. We barely scraped the surface of the Disneyland Park, but did cover most of the Studios.
This time we should arrive at our Disney accommodation around 3-4pm tomorrow. We have nothing planned for that day but we’re staying at the Davy Crockett Ranch which has a park (I believe) along with a swimming pool. We’re definitely going swimming tomorrow! There will probably be a food shop too, we’re self catering so that makes us much more flexible.
Thursday our break includes all day tickets to both Disney parks, so that’s what we’ll be doing all day Thursday. We’re planning to pack sandwiches and take them with us, to avoid paying park prices for lunch, but then depending on the time, either eating dinner in the park, or going back to our accommodation to eat. Finally for Friday we have to check out, but we do have another day at the park. We bought our tickets extra for that, because I wanted to make sure we’d had time to see everything! However by about 6pm on Friday we need to be heading off, back to Calais. We have a late night ferry crossing back over to Dover, then a long drive home to Lincoln. Depending on if we stop to sleep in the car or not, I estimate arrival back home between 4am and 7am on Saturday. It’s going to be a long day!
Anyway I really should go do something useful now. Doubt I’ll have internet for a few days so don’t expect to hear anything else from me until I get back!
