Last week we headed out for dinner as a family and I finally got to wear my new Alice in Wonderland themed dress. It was pretty darn cold that day so I had to winter it up somewhat, but I liked the way it turned out.
It’s been a long time since I did an “Outfit of the Day” post, so I figured it was about time. Unlike my best friend Amy, I don’t think I’ll have time to showcase all my Disney dresses, but maybe – who knows. In the meantime, here is one of the dresses I bought to take to Florida, that I actually wore out for Amy’s birthday lunch yesterday.
The Hot Topic dress is one of three in that style that I bought – I also have an Ariel one and an Alice one (I’d have loved the Maleficent one but it’s sold out as yet). I thought this particular one would actually be my favourite as I love Beauty and the Beast, but it’s actually not. I do still love it though. For Saturday lunch I coupled my dress with a new cardigan I just bought from H&M, some old tights and my standard black heels that I’ve had for longer than I can remember. I wore one of my own necklaces, that I sell over at Jewellery Ever After.
However, before I actually getting dressed for lunch, I actually tried out my dress with some new trainers, to see if they would look alright. In Florida it won’t be at all practical to wear heals, so I’ll definitely need something more comfy.
Outfit – as before
Trainers – Mastershoe Myshu*
These trainers are from a company called Mastershoe Myshu and I love the colour of them. Luckily the blue goes with all three of my Hot Topic dresses, so these will be a great option for comfy shoes around the park! Obviously, as in the picture, I’ll be ditching the tights and the cardigan too – since hopefully it will be far too warm.
Finally I’m going to leave you with my selfie – mostly because it shows the necklace up close too!
On Wednesday of last week, Chris and I went out to dinner at a very (very) nice restaurant called The Bronze Pig. Since we very rarely eat out in such places, I decided it was time to treat myself to a new dress – not just that, but since losing a stone in weight, I figured it would be good to treat myself to a size 14 dress, instead of a 16. I headed into New Look (there isn’t much choice in Gainsborough – that or Next) and wandered around for a while. One of the first dresses to catch my eye was this one and when ten minutes later it was still my favourite pick, I took it into the changing rooms to try it on. The price tag was £29 which to be honest isn’t that expensive but is more than I have spent on clothes for me in a long time. I decided to get it anyway as I wanted something special to wear that evening.
Since we were going out to the cinema first, I chose to take the dress with me and change before dinner, rather than wear my new dress to the cinema too. I threw my black heels, a few pairs of tights and some make up into a bag and just hoped I would have everything I needed.
And this is how it looked on! Sadly, they aren’t great pictures – no offence to Chris but I wish I’d been able to take them myself or had remembered my proper camera. I absolutely love the colour – I think that’s what drew me to the dress in the first place. I also love the style – it reminds me very much of Joe Browns. Unfortunately now looking back at the pictures I still find myself wishing I was thinner, but at the time I felt pretty and I guess that’s what matters.
I really do love the dress and even more so that it can be dressed up or dressed down. I wore it with plain black tights and heels for going out, but it could very easily be worn with jeans or leggings for more of a casual look (of which I’m sure I’ll get more use for it that way). I would be happy to wear this style of clothing all the time, if it wasn’t for the fact it would cost so much to overhaul my whole wardrobe! Also, I’d honestly like to be down to a size 12 before I even attempted that!!
Anyway… when we got home, I went a little crazy with the auto-timer and my iPad. The quality of the photo is poor but I think it gives a better look at the dress (and less of my head, which is always a plus!).
And that’s pretty much that……. well almost!
Yes, that’s right, another OOTD post! This one is a little different to the last – more dressy and less summery! I absolutely love the colour red and always have, especially when it comes to clothes. It’s such a bright and vibrant colour that I always think you just can’t go wrong.
The top I’m wearing is from Bonmarché and cost £24*. It’s called a double layer cape blouse, but sadly it’s not in stock on the website right now! The blouse comes from a collection by David Emanuel – most famous for the wedding dress he designed for Princess Diana (or being on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here, perhaps?). It comes complete with the red bead necklace.
The trousers are some I’ve owned for a long time. They are a black pinstriped pair from George – that until recently didn’t fit! I have to admit I was pretty chuffed to get into them, and comfortably into them at that. The shoes are also a pair I’ve had for a long time, this time from F&F. I think I might cry when these shoes go as there pretty much my staple “going out/dressing up” shoes.
So I feel a little nervous about this post…
Unhappy with my current size and weight, OOTD posts are not something I have ever done before, or even wanted to. Not only that, but I’m not fashionable in the slightest. However, there is something within my personality, that insists on stepping outside my comfort zone every now and again.
I started off by taking some pictures in my bedroom mirror. Sadly there isn’t much room or natural light, so they aren’t great pictures. However it was a beautiful sunny day and I decided I’d ask Chris if he’d snap a couple when we headed out to Morrisons.
I know none of them are great pictures but I’m not especially bothered either. It’s nice to just step outside your comfort zone, get out in the sun and wear a pretty dress! So this was my first ever, OOTD!
