3 Simple Ways to Generate Extra Income as a Stay at Home Mum

July 27, 2018 by Bel Leave a Comment

Making the decision to be a stay-at-home mom is one that isn’t easy. While it comes naturally to some, for others, it may not be so ideal. Whatever the case, you may be a mother thinking about ways to generate income for yourself and your family from home. This could be because childcare costs are way out of your budget or because you’re eager to have financial independence. You should know that if you’re ready to put in the work, there are several ways that you can make your financial goals a reality. This article is going to help you out by mentioning three simple ways that you can generate income as a stay at home mum.

Become a Virtual Assistant

When looking for ways to generate income from home, one of the things you should put on your list is becoming a virtual assistant. Working remotely is becoming increasingly popular in businesses globally, so there are plenty of vacancies looking to be filled. Some things to consider if you want to become a virtual assistant are that you likely won’t get the same benefits as those with a full-time job, that you’ll need to file your own taxes, and that you’ll likely be classified as an independent contractor. Being an assistant at any level can often be demanding, however, so it’s key that you pick something that’s flexible and enables you to work around the kids as well as domestics.

Learn to Write

If you’re a fairly good writer, choosing to become better could create many opportunities for you in terms of generating extra income. Believe it or not, but writers tend to go decent amounts of money for performing various tasks. You could decide to become a freelance blog writer, copywriter, or content writer for a number of digital platforms. Other ways to make money as a writer include starting a writing business, creating and managing your own blog, or becoming an author. All routes would give you the flexibility that you need as well as provide you with the opportunity to generate decent amounts if you’re diligent. If you start a blog, using something like ad words can help monetise your site. Consider using google adwords agencies to help you.

Try Marketing

Another department to consider as a busy mum trying to generate income from home is that of a marketer. If you have a flair for marketing, you may be happy to know that there are several roles that you can do from home. Some are a social media manager, digital marketing consultant, product marketing manager, and marketing analyst. If you decide to go into marketing, you should also have office equipment, access to software and tools, as well as international calling options available in case you need to call outside of the country. If, for instance, you wanted to call the Philippines you could try visiting https://account.viber.com/en/call-philippines as you’ll find several international calling rates whether it’s for the Philippines, Europe, as well as almost every other destination globally.

Working from home as a full-time mom has its benefits, but it can also equally have its inconveniences. Some of them include the fact that the only quiet time you often have is when the kids are asleep and that household duties don’t magically stop. If you resolve to be more organised you should find that you’re able to get through your workload every day. It is also essential that you accept that on the days when it’s mum versus work, mum will win.

10 Tools Everyone Needs to Start with DIY Projects

May 10, 2018 by Bel Leave a Comment

There’s just something about working with tools to complete a project that appeals to us and that’s why the “Do It Yourself” – aka DIY – trend is catching on. There’s practically no limit to the kind of projects that you can take on because you are only limited by your experience, skills and resources. In case you just found your creative side, here are ten tools that you will need to get started.

Tape

You wouldn’t be able to build anything useful if you can’t take measurements and that’s why the first tool on this list is the tape. You might need more than one though and do make sure that one of the tapes can go the full length of your longest wall or at least 25-feet.

Standard Level

Once you put up that shelf for your books, you will need to place a standard level on it to know whether the shelf is truly horizontal to the ground, because if it isn’t, the books will just slide off.

Hammer

The rip claw and hammer head combo is one of the oldest tools ever used by man and it continues to be one of the most fundamental ones to date. Be it for hammering nails in or pulling them out, every DIY enthusiast needs a hammer and preferably more than one of varying size.

Welder

If you plan to work with metal, you will need a welder and a welding helmet. There are TIG welders, MIG welders, flux-cored welders and stick welders to choose from, but it is recommended that you visit Welding List to get some guidance in regard to which welder and helmet combo would be best for the kind of work that you are looking to do.

Hand Drill, Driver and Bits

Get a wireless drilling machine if you can and do get a variety of bits to make your hand drill do more than just drill holes.

Saws

Saws are a necessity in most DIY projects and just one type isn’t going to be enough. You will need a circular saw, a jigsaw, a miter saw and of course, the table saw.

Palm Sander

You need them to sand down the edges of a wooden surface and for detailing, so it’s an essential tool for wood workers.

Brad Nailer

The brad nailer is a real timesaver because you will be putting in fine wire brad nails (used in planter boxes, shelves, baseboards, etc.) in record time with this little tool.

Screwdrivers

Even people who are not involved in DIY work have screwdrivers, so it’s pretty much one of the most basic tools that everyone should have. Make sure that you have multiple heads for handling the various sizes that the Philips and the flat-head screws come in.

Wrench

Let’s end this list with the good old wrench, which should help you tighten or loosen nuts and bolts. The ideal wrench is the 8-inch adjustable wrench, although some experts suggest having wrenches of multiple sizes.

In addition to the ten tools we just discussed, don’t forget to also get a utility knife, just in case you don’t already have one yet for some reason. Once you manage to gather up a box full of these little tools, you are ready to take on almost any DIY projects like a pro.

What I’ve been up to!

September 4, 2015 by Bel Leave a Comment

It’s been a quiet week on my blog and that’s basically because I’ve been busy! The girls were back at school this week which took up a lot of my attention, but I’ve also been working hard on my new site, Closet Geek. I’ve been making and sewing, sourcing and thinking, browsing the web and just constantly thinking!!

Closet Geek labelIf you missed the memo, my new site is sort of One-Stop-Shop (or it will be, eventually), for geeky apparel. Right now it stocks jewellery, hair bows and pencil cases, along with Disney inspired dresses for children. In the near future I want to add adult clothes, but at the moment I just do them on a custom order basis. If you want to keep up with what I’m going, Instagram seems to be my main platform as its great for visuals.

So this week I’ve been finishing off a Wendy cosplay that I’ve been working on for a while. It’s almost finished but not quite so I won’t share it here yet. However I have completed a new Woody inspired dress for girls and started working on some other projects.

Woody Inspired Dress

I have two custom orders in process at the moment, the first one of which I’ve ordered fabric and have a pattern for, the second being quite a big project! The first one is the Prom Dress from Back to the Future. Know which one? Marty’s mum, Lorraine wears it.

Back to the Future, Prom Dress

The second is a Cinderella cosplay which I’m still looking at fabrics for at the moment. I’m pretty excited, but also a little terrified too! As well as that, I’m making a Briar Rose inspired dress and hopefully a Snow White rags inspired dress, fingers crossed they’ll be done over the weekend. I have loads more planned but I really need to get on with my custom orders.

Finally on top of all that, I spent almost one whole day making hair bows. I had some in my store but I’ll be adding more, again you can see those on my instagram. My favourite by far is Eeyore though. It was quite fiddly but such a good outcome.

Eeyore bow

In the future I’ll be adding a range of Villains bows. I’ll also be adding some Superheroes too!

So this is what I’ve been up to. How about you? I love working from home but I tell you, its hard to separate being at work and not being at work – switching off your brain and actually getting “me” time seems a thing of the past!
