Would you believe at thirty five, I had never been to Bingo? Yep, its true! Well not any more…
Last Tuesday night, Nat and I went to Gala Bingo in Lincoln. She has actually already blogged about it over on Twice The Mum.
Since we’d both love to win some money and Nat wasn’t really in a good condition for anything too physical (she had her gallbladder removed), Bingo was our choice for a girls night out. I picked Nat up at about 6.45pm and we headed into Lincoln. When we got to Gala, Nat updated her address and got a new card, then I signed up. Since Nat had introduced a new person, we both got vouchers for a free meal and free dessert on that night, plus another free game on a different night.
When we headed in, I have to admit I felt a little daunted. I had no clue what we were supposed to do or where we were supposed to go. It had been a while since Nat had last gone to Bingo there too and so it took us a little while to get sorted. However we bought ourselves some Bingo books, then headed to the bar. Nat bought me my very first Bingo dabber AND a glass of wine, before we both headed over to find a seat.
It wasn’t too long before the Bingo actually started at 7.30pm, but when it did I felt completely lost. It took me one whole game to realise that the numbers were listed in columns, tens, twenties, thirties etc. I could well have won on that first sheet for all I know, as I missed so many numbers I never would have known! The second sheet was a little easier but I decided that wine (and not eating) was not a good idea for Bingo. The numbers were called so fast!
That said, over a few games we got into it and it did seem to get easier after time. Half an hour passed before we even knew it and I was so glad for a half an hour break. I grabbed a sandwich and a bag of crisps, feeling much better after that. Then at 8.30pm, the Bingo started again. This time there wasn’t as many sheets so it seemed to end a lot faster. Nat and I had picked up the Last Chance booklets which meant we had to hold in and wait till 9.30pm for the last game – though in hindsight I don’t think we would bother next time.
All in all my first Bingo experience was very enjoyable. Sadly we didn’t win anything but I would definitely like to go again. In all honesty, I have no idea how the elderly keep up with how fast they call the numbers but I do know that I need to stick to coke next time we go! Since getting home I have read through my little welcome pack and think I have a better idea of what was going on majority of the time now! Fingers crossed, when we go again, we’ll leave with a win. That said, I’d like to try somewhere other than Gala next time so any recommendations would be appreciated!
