Lush Bath Bomb – Lava Lamp

November 8, 2016 by Bel

Not last week but the week before, I had my first Lush bath in a long time. I’d picked up a bit of a stash (as I mentioned here) and the first lucky dip bath bomb was something called Lava Lamp. Not only did I forget to take a picture of the bath bomb before I threw it into the bath, I also only put pictures and videos on my “Story” on Instagram – so now they’re gone! What a wally.

The first impressions of the bath bomb were great. It was absolutely beautiful in the bath and also incredibly impressive as it did actually remind me of a Lava Lamb. The smell was fantastic and I was already sold on this new bath bomb from Lush.

Having got so excited, posting it all on my Instagram stories, I clearly got myself completely distracted in forgetting to take actual pictures. I did get a few but they were mostly the aftermath – I’ll get to that soon.

Lush describes this bath bomb as:

Just go with the flow and get groovy baby. This time machine of bobbing purple orbs – made with 100% traceable cocoa butter – will create the hypnotic spectacle of a lava lamp in your own bath, taking you back to the swinging sixties. A triple whammy of Sicilian mandarin, tangerine and orange flower give this vibrant bomb a fragrance like fruit pastilles.

The smell, as I mentioned before, was amazing – strong and lasting. The colour was lovely and the effect of the bath bomb was so impressive. My first issue came however, when I looked at my skin in the bath. Everywhere that lay just on the water edge, was covered in a waxy purple layer.

I saw on the Lush website that many people described this as a soft, moisturising, oil layer, but for me it was just waxy. It  didn’t really seem to come off, even with shower gel, although the purple did go. My next issue was shaving my legs. This moisturising layer, as it was called, actually caused all the hairs to gunk up my razor and I wasn’t able to rinse or tap them out of it so ended up giving up. I might also add that my skin still seemed to have this wax layer by the time I had my next bath.

Finally and all issues aside (I did like it), I got out of the bath to realise another flaw… my bath was very stained. The pictures don’t really show the extent but this purple wavy reside went all around the bath, where the water level had been.

Did I like the bath bomb? Absolutely, yes.
Would I buy it again?Absolutely not – sorry guys. Too high maintenance for me.

Lush Halloween Wish List

October 17, 2016 by Bel

Halloween Lush

Halloween Lush

It’s come to that time of year again where I can’t help but lust after the new Lush products. I have been good all year and barely bought any Lush items (I think Valentine’s was the last time and I turned down the offer from Chris on my birthday in May to get a few bits). However limited items are really hard for me to resist and this brings me to my Halloween Lush Wish List.

I’m not a huge fan of most of the shower gels and I really dislike soap – not just Lush, all soap. However I am completely in love with bubble bars and I can definitely go for a few bath bombs too. Here are the items I’m after this Halloween.

From left to right; Pumpkin bath bomb – £3.95, Monster’s Ball bath bomb – £4.25, Boo bath melt – £3.50, Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar – £3.95.
Bottom row, left to right; Goth Fairy shimmer bar – £5.50, Autumn Leaf bath bomb – £3.75

I also have my eye on a lot of Christmas Lush too so keep an eye out for that wish list!

Energy Saving Tips

July 18, 2015 by Bel

I was recently asked by Best Electric Radiators to share my energy saving tips. As a stay-at-home mum of two children, we’re always looking to cut corners and save money. As noted by Premium Electric, circuit breakers are recommended over fuses because they automatically trip to stop excessive electrical currents, enhancing safety. These are some of the changes I have made over the last few years which have helped us to save money and energy. United PLumbing Heating Air & Electric suggests some great ways to save energy

– Take a shower instead of a bath. I used to love a long bath – a soak in the tub for over an hour. However I don’t really have the time to spare these days and obviously baths take up far more water than a shower. Instead I hope in the shower and I’m out 10 minutes later. Maybe not as luxurious but it suits my lifestyle better and saves water!

– Fill the kettle only as much as you need it. I moan at everyone in the house about this, along with everyone who visits. Why is it that we naturally “fill” the kettle, even when we’re only making two cups. The latest kettle I’ve bought has far clearer markings as to where you need to fill to, to get the right amount. Filling the kettle with only what you need saves not only on water, but on the electric it takes to boil the water.

– Turning off lights. If you’ve ever needed a commercial electrician to come take a look at your wiring, you’ve probably heard this before. They know what kind of wear and tear these things endure while we take electricity for granted until something stops working or we get the power bill. If you leave a room, turn off the light. During summer with longer hours of daylight, we don’t even need to be turning them on too early. Don’t get into bad habits and turn on lights when you don’t need them – last as long as you can and then when you do turn them on, remember to turn them off when not needed!

– Use the Timer Set and Controls on the heating It’s not been that warm this year as a whole and I hate to admit I was still popping my heating on for the odd day in May and June. However we reset our heating controls as soon as the weather got milder with the help of heating services. Making sure your timer settings and temperature control are right will save on the heating. It’s one thing to pop it on for an hour here and there but another to have it coming on automatically every morning and night when you don’t really need it. wpid-20150717123645.jpg – Air dry your clothes instead of tumble dry. We’ve always been using washers with tumble dry function but the last one broke last year. Now, we bought a new washing machine that didn’t have a tumble function. My partner was always far too quick to throw something into the tumble dryer when he could have just hung it out to try. Now he can’t and that saves us loads of energy! Not only that, but hung out to dry, the clothes are a lot less likely to need ironing and this saves us too. As well as that, use a lower temperature wash and that will save you as well. There are loads of other tips too, but I sadly can’t say I’m very good at following those. Switching off appliances fully instead of to standby, making sure the fridge and freezer are full as it takes less work to keep them chilled, using the right size hob on your gas cooker, avoid using pre-rinse on the dishwasher and so on. You may also ask your electrician to inspect your electrical wiring and make sure there are no electricity leakages through damaged or exposed wires which are also potential fire hazards. There are many great ways to save energy and money – along with plenty of websites out there with tips. These are just a few of mine and the ones I’ve found easiest to adapt to.

What are your tips?

Comforter – Lush Shower Gel

July 4, 2015 by Bel

I have been meaning to post about this amazing shower gel from Lush, for ages and ages now. Ever since we went to London in May and I treated myself to a £40 haul from their Oxford Street store, I’ve been trying new products left, right and centre. However my favourite by far is The Comforter shower Gel.

IMG_0091

Now you might have heard of The Comforter before, but not as a shower gel – as a bubble bar! It’s by far one of my favourite products from Lush. It’s smell is primarily blackcurrant, but the bergamot also offers a citrus tone too. The description on the website reads:

Sometimes you just need to shut yourself off from the outside world under a blanket of fruity foam that will put you back in the right frame of mind to face the world. This bar is supersized, so you’ll only need to crumble half a bar under your tap to make enough bubbles for a long, comforting soak. Cassis absolute gives a distinctive blackcurrant fragrance, while bergamot adds an uplifting note.

As I mentioned, this is for the Bubble Bar, not the Shower Gel. The shower gel is currently just an exclusive to the Oxford Street store. Hopefully though, fingers crossed, it will be placed on the website and other stores before too long!

IMG_0089

The shower gel is a beautiful pink colour, with a glittery shimmer to it as well. It’s a little runny and you panic a bit when you apply it – as your skin turns pink too – but it lathers up nicely and smells AMAZING!

In the coming weeks I will tell you a little more about the products I’ve bought and hopefully my favourites may even make it into store. In the meantime you can see a full list of all the Oxford Street exclusives here – and read my review of the Big Bang bubble bar.
