T-Shirt Thursday

February 19, 2015 by Bel

Yet again this week I’m posting my T-shirt Tuesday on a Thursday, but this week I sort of have a good excuse! My best friend Amy (from Cocktails in Teacups) decided very late on Monday night that she was coming to visit for a couple of days and so from Tuesday to today, I’ve had her and her daughter Olivia visiting. As such I’ve either been busy or completely exhausted, with no time to make blog posts (and none pre-done as a backup!). In all honesty, all I want to do tonight is go for a bath but a guilty conscience had got the better of me. As such though, its just going to be a quickie from me tonight – just the t-shirt I was wearing on Tuesday and no project t-shirt.

This t-shirt design is called Winter is Coming and combines a Frozen and Game of Thrones crossover. Elsa is sat on an ice version of the Iron Throne, with the quote “winter is coming”, a slogan from GoT too. The design belongs to an artist known as Harebrained. If you like the t-shirt, its available in a variety of places including RedBubble, TeeFury and TeePublic. It’s one of my favourite t-shirts and also drawing styles!

Though, like I said, I haven’t got around to starting on my next project, I will give you a sneak peak. This is the design I’ll be using next time!

T-shirt Tuesday

January 27, 2015 by Bel

So a week has passed from the time I announced my new feature – T-shirt Tuesday. I have two to share with you today, both the one I’ve been wearing today and also the one I started on as my “project” t-shirt.

First up, is the t-shirt I’m wearing today. I have loads and loads of t-shirts by this artist – Karen Hallion. In fact, she’s pretty much my favourite artist. I’ve actually made it my quest to own all her Disney/Who t-shirts and I’m not far off doing so! This particular design is called “Part of Every World” and is available to buy in a variety of places including TeeFury, RedBubble and Society 6.

t-shirt

Unlike majority of my t-shirt (they’re black), this one is a nice blue colour. It was available in other colours but since its set under the sea, I liked the idea of keeping it blue. Anyway – this is my t-shirt of the day!

Next up, you might remember the t-shirt I decided to take as my first project t-shirt, this time last week.

wpid-20150120082915.jpg

To be absolutely honest with you, I couldn’t remember where I ordered this from, what the design was called or who the artist was before making this post. However I’ve taken the last fifteen minutes or so to root through my emails and figure it out. The artist is CleverAvian (Kate I think) and they use various platforms such as RedBubble, TeePublic and DeviantArt. This particular design is called “The Last Petal” and it features Belle (from Beauty and the Beast), along with the Beast and a rose.

I started off by cutting off the sleeves, roughly in a shape I wanted. Sadly I cut a little bit too much off the second side and had to level it on the original side. I had a feeling back then that I’d cut too much but I ploughed on as I wanted to finish anyway. Next I cut a skirt out of t-shirt material and stitched the top and bottom together. I sewed all the edges to neaten and then cut the neckline lower as one of my issues with the t-shirt was its high neckline.

As you can see from the middle picture, my bra shows due to cutting the armhole too big. I can luckily cover this by wearing a vest tee underneath, a cardigan on the top, or I could even sew an extra panel on each side for a permanent solution. Otherwise though, for a first attempt, I’m pretty pleased with it! Will I wear it? I guess we’ll have to wait and see but…

I’m wearing it now!!

Keep an eye out for my next T-shirt Tuesday to see what I’m wearing and what I’m working on!

T-shirt Tuesdays

January 20, 2015 by Bel

Today I had a sort out of my drawers. I didn’t really go to plan…

Back in June of 2013, I posted all about my t-shirt addiction and anyone who has been following my blog for some time, will know that I have been buying t-shirts on and off for years. That said, I’ve noticed over the last year, I haven’t been buying as many as I used to. I don’t know if that’s because they don’t appeal any more, if it was perhaps a fad, or maybe partly connected to body image in the increased weight. Whatever the reason, I also know I haven’t been wearing the t-shirts as much either but the new pages from the bestdamnpolos.com helped me get the t-shirts and wear them more. That was partly because of wearing work uniform every day, but largely because of the extra weight I’ve been carrying and not feeling as comfortable in the tight tees. As such, I decided that this morning I would sort out my two whole drawers full of t-shirts – try and separate out some to sell, some to throw, some to up-cycle perhaps.

wpid-20150120080625.jpg

I started to take all my t-shirts out of the drawer, making a pile to go back in and supposedly a pile to go. I went through every t-shirt I owned, without wanting to get rid of a single one. It was while I was doing this, that I realised what a huge geek I was and that even my lesser fandoms were so loved that I didn’t want to get rid of them. As such, I decided I would make the feature “T-shirt Tuesdays”. The basic idea would be to feature one t-shirt a week, to showcase all the awesome tees I have.

I set about going through the pile again – this time more ruthlessly. I manage to add about ten tops to the “to go” pile, but this was largely because I didn’t like the fit and style, rather than not liking the design. It was at this point that I decided, perhaps I would up-cycle them instead. After posting something to Facebook and having a few people comment, I decided that dresses were my preferred option of where to go with it. After doing a bit of googling, I found various ways to go about it and today I made a start.

So… while some weeks “T-shirt Tuesdays” will just feature the t-shirt I’m wearing, other weeks it will showcase my “project” t-shirt.  This week I’m bringing you the “Beauty and the Beast” tee that I’m going to attempt my first dress with. This is what it looks like now and I’ll let you know how it turns out!

My Geek Box (that actually belongs to Chris)

November 22, 2014 by Bel

Chris has had two boxes from “My Geek Box“, both of which have been a little disappointing. As such he decided to cancel, but a little too late for November’s. That means, yesterday his Geek Box arrived and of course I was there to snap a few pictures, to share them with you all. Typically, in my opinion, this is the best box so far…

As soon as Chris opened the box, my eyes went to the plush. I almost squealed, except for the fact that it doesn’t belong to me, but Chris instead!

This was the contents of the box:

  • My Geek Box magazine
  • 2000 AD magazine/comic
  • Thunderbirds shot glasses
  • Darlek plush (with noises!)
  • Red Dwarf t-shirt
  • Baker Street sign
  • Sweets called Weirds (presumably like Nerds)

Neither of the magazines are particularly exciting, though I am amused by Simon Pegg with a moustache! We quickly moved onto the rest of the box, hoping it would be better.

*SQUEAL* Seriously, I love this. It’s squidgy and cute but it talks and I especially love the fact it says “you would make a good darlek” – hell yeah I would! Chris was actually kind enough to give this to me! Although he loved it himself, he isn’t actually a Doctor Who fan, so it’s now mine. Yippee!

This is mine now too! I’m a huge Sherlock fan, though more traditionally rather than the recent BBC series or even Elementary. That said I do love the Sherlock movies that star Robert Downey Jnr – even if the second one was a bit dire. I also love London, the tube stations, the street signs etc. Chris was more than happy to gift this to me, knowing I’d love it on many levels.

How awesome are these? Thunderbirds shot glasses. This set of 5, features each number/vehicle, from the TV series Thunderbirds. They’re proper glass too. I’m not sure if they’ll ever make it out of the box but they’re pretty damn cool.

Finally, a pack of sweets – Weirds – and the obligatory t-shirt. The Weirds are Dennis the Menace themed and in a weird flavour of Strawberry and Grape. The t-shirt, by far the best of three that have arrived. is Red Dwarf themed (awesome in itself). It’s also a good design in a really decent colour!

As I said, in my opinion, this is the best box out of the three he’s had. Typical really since he’s cancelled the subscription. All of the things that came (except maybe the magazines) are pretty decent. For the first time, it actually feels like value for money – well for Chris anyway, since it was his money. I know that we’ll get use out of everything (even if only in a display sense) but finally, a decent box – YAY!

My Geek Box (that still isn’t mine…)

October 23, 2014 by Bel

Last month I posted about Chris’ “My Geek Box” that he received. Sadly it wasn’t that great but he wanted to stick with it and see what the next month brought. On Saturday his latest box arrived and even though it was 11 o’clock at night when he get home, I quickly urged him to open it up so I could snap some pictures. Please excuse the quality of the photos, as they were taken on my phone and at night, though I did go back and take a few new ones the next day.

The box felt pretty light and I had prepared myself for it to be disappointing. I have to admit it was a better box than last month, but sadly it still wasn’t great.

The contents of the box were:

  • My Geek Box magazine
  • Jason Pop! Funko figure
  • Pumpkin Popping Candy
  • Zombi Zity figure
  • Zomblings blind bag
  • Red t-shirt
  • a poster
  • Nightmare Before Christmas magnet

I didn’t take another picture of the magazine but it was rubbish anyway. Inside was 2 pages of cosplay stuff and 4 pages of games review and basically seemed like a waste of glossy paper. However the second thing out of the box was this awesome Jason Voorhees figure. We’re getting quite a collection of Pop! Funko now and what I didn’t tell Chris when he opened this, was that I’ve also bought him the Jigsaw figure from the Saw movies, for Chritstmas. This will go awesome with this little fellow.

Popping Candy is at least better than a Twinkie, but still pretty weird. I have no idea what this pumpkin flavour will be like but it sounds pretty gross to me. Next up is the Zombie Zity figure which seems pretty pointless to me. No doubt Chris will sit him on his desk upstairs but in by opinion, just a waste of time.

Speaking of a waste of time, the Zombling blind bag was pretty pointless too. This strange looking cow thing is what came out of the bag and I see even less point to this than the Zombie Zity thing. Needless to say it’s actually in the bin now (along with the magazine coincidentally).

Couldn’t decide if last night’s picture was better or if today’s was, so posting them both. Sadly the t-shirts seems to come VERY creased but this month’s was at least a better colour than last months yellow. Chris likes it and it looks less like a tent, so that’s a plus.

This poster is pretty good but sadly its not really our style. Also, as much as its great to be sent some good prints, its often a hassle to go out and buy frames to make them look good. At our age we’re too old to be putting posters up so really it would be nice to get a canvas or something you’d be proud to place on your walls.

Finally, the only thing I really like. A Nightmare Before Christmas magnet that is now on our fridge…

Anyway, once again, its not my box so it doesn’t really matter to me – but personally I’d still have been disappointed, even though I thought it was better than last month. The Pop! Funko figure is really all that saves this box, and a marginally better t-shirt. I have no idea if Chris will continue his subscription or not but I’m definitely sticking to “My Little Box” instead of geek boxes for now.

My Geek Box (except it isn’t actually mine!)

September 19, 2014 by Bel

To tell you the truth, I’m not entirely sure if this is August’s box or September’s. I remember Chris had a few problems getting it delivered, but I don’t know if its late for September or very late for August. Anyway… as you know, I’ve previously subscribed to Nerd Block and Loot Crate – two geeky box subscriptions. I’m just about to receive my third Loot Crate (I had three Nerd Blocks too) and so I’m probably due to cancel soon and find something new! My Geek Box was one I was wondering about… but in the end, Chris subscribed and so I didn’t have to!!

Chris was lured into ordering My Geek Box when it was advertised that this month’s theme was Apocalypse. Chris a big fan of zombies, Walking Dead etc. and so this was the kick he needed to sign up. As soon as his box arrived, I was quick to dive in and get some snaps, wanting to let my lovely readers know if its something you should be considering or not!!

The contents of the box were as follows:

  • World War Z book
  • Walking Dead Vinyl Figure (blind box)
  • My Geek Box magazine
  • a Twinkie
  • a glowstick
  • a t-shirt

All in all, it doesn’t sound too bad, but in actual fact (and in my opinion), it was pretty terrible.

Sadly, and no fault of My Geek Box, Chris already owns the World War Z book (anyone want a copy?). It’s been out for a long time now and Chris has owned it well before the movie was made. Not only that, but with the movie being made, I’m sure even more copies were sold then, so really the chance of someone who is “into” an apocalypse theme, not having the book already, is pretty slim.

The Walking Dead figure is a blind box, so obviously no one – not My Geek Box and not you as a receiver – know what is going to be in it, until you open it. I have to admit, for me, this was the best part of the box. Partly because figures are always cool if you’re into the theme and secondly, because the figure turned out to be Daryl Dixon (and I love Daryl), Chris gave the figure to me!

The My Geek Box magazine was pretty pointless to be honest. It was about 6 pages of nothing much, majority being about some girl who did Cosplay of apocalypse type characters. The Twinkie and the Glowstick were really just random. I mean, why? Okay.. so I get that Twinkies are often mentioned as that must-have” or missed food, when the apocalypse sets in, but really? Also… glowsticks, same notion, needed in the dark etc. but still. Sad.

So finally that brings me onto the t-shirt. The design is… okay. The colour is just… well disgusting to be honest. There are very few people I know, who choose to wear yellow – certainly on a regular basis. Not only that, but the size is just HUGE. Chris did admittedly order a 2XL which is his usual size on TeeFury, Qwertee etc. but this is really just like a tent. Not only that but the print quality is poor and looks like it will wash off – its certainly not a professional looking print.

And so that is the contents of the “My Geek Box”. Honestly I am so glad that it wasn’t something I subscribed to as I would have been so disappointed. In truth, I think Chris was too, but with next months box themed “Nightmare” he’s hanging in there for a “better luck next time” type of thing. Personally, I’ve looked at the “past crates” and I’m not convinced. Sorry My Geek Box, but its just not that good.
