Wednesday Wishlist – Disney Style Books

May 18, 2016 by Bel

I have to admit that I’m super excited about this week’s wishlist, because I’ve been working on it for absolutely ages! I don’t read half as much as I’d like to as I’m always busy sewing or blogging, but if I did, I would read ALL these books I have listed and many more. This week I wanted to show off some of the many Disney/Fairytale style books that I’ve come across over the last few months. Some I’d never heard of before and others being sequels to books I already own or have read.

Disney is one of my favourite topics ever but I love a good spin on it too. Nearly all of these books follow that idea and so hopefully if you’re the same, you’ll like the sound of a lot of these books.

Starting off with Poor Unfortunate Souls, this book has been on my wishlist for a while now. When we visited Florida last year I discovered Fairest of All and The Beast Within, both of which I regretted not buying. However for my birthday the following month, I was lucky enough to get bought both. This third book is about Ursula and honestly she is pretty much my Villain spirit animal. It’s not released yet but I would love to own this book and add it to my collection.

As Old as Time is a similar story, it’s pre-order and not released yet. However I’ve had my eye on Once Upon a Dream and A Whole New World (Chris just bought me this a few days ago) in hardback for a while (they just got released in paperback) and now spotted this Beauty and the Beast Twisted Tale coming out soon. I have yet to read any, but I plan to start AWNW this week!

The next couple of books, Unhooked and Never Never, are both Peter Pan/Hook themed books. They both appeal to me to read, though I’ve heard nothing about them other than reading the information on Amazon. There is one on the next line down called Wendy Darling (and its a Part 1 I believe) and this is the same sort of thing. They all just sound like good books. Finally on this line is a book called Fairest and its part of The Lunar Chronicles series. I currently own Cinder which is by the same author and while I haven’t read it yet, I’m told it’s really good.

On the middle line is a book called Once Again, its by the same as the Twisted Tales but I think it’s co-written. From what I can gather its two stories in one, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Since I mentioned Wendy Darling above, I’ll skip on to Kingdom Keepers. This is a series that I only recently discovered and have to admit I’m thoroughly enjoying. The first book, Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark, I actually bought for Megan for her birthday, but Lily and I ended up reading as a bedtime story. Once we’d finished, I moved onto Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dawn. Since we only read one chapter a night, it does take quite some time to work our way through, however Lily was lucky enough to get bought the next 3-4 books for her birthday so we should have enough to keep us going for a while. This particular book I listed is a sort of spin-off series I believe, called Kingdom Keepers: The Return. Obviously we will be finishing our current series, before heading off into that one though.

Finally on the middle line is another book which I believe is co-written, by Riley Pearson (the author of The Kingdom Keepers) and Dave Barry. There are several books in this series too and again I haven’t read any of them, but given that they are by the author of The Kingdom Keepers, I would definitely give it a try.

Finally on the bottom row is a couple of cheeky additions. Return to the Isle of the Lost is a sequel book to The Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel. All I really know of the Descendants is the Disney movie that was on TV last year, which I watched with the kids, but I did buy this book for Lily and we haven’t got around to reading it yet. Given that the first book is good, then we’d probably want the sequel too! My next cheeky addition is actually Once Upon a Time (OUAT) related and though there were several to choose from, this one is my top pick. OUAT isn’t technically Disney but it’s pretty damn close so any book connected to the series is something I want to read.

Finally that leaves three books which I only found today as I was searching for last minute additions. I honestly know nothing about the three picks but the blurbs appealed so I threw them on. Disneylanders and The Disneyland Quest, remind me somewhat of the Kingdom Keepers style book. The last one, is Fairy Godmother themed and is part of a series, some of which Megan owns but hasn’t read yet (The Snow Queen and The Sleeping Beauty). The series is called Five Hundred Kingdoms and from what I can gather, all the books can be read independently.

So these are some of my treasure finds but I’d love to know if you have any other suggestions!

Disney Countdown – Days 30 to 24

March 9, 2015 by Bel

countdown

Monday (30) – March 2nd – Make or Draw Disney
Tuesday (29) – March 3rd – Read Disney
Wednesday (28) – March 4th – Watch a random Disney movie – The Princess Diaries
Thursday (27) – March 5th – Lily’s Birthday
Friday (26) – March 6th – Watch Sleeping Beauty
Saturday (25) – March 7th – Play a Disney game
Sunday (24) – March 8th – Dress up Disney

This week has felt a little hectic at times and so with regards to the Disney tasks we’ve had to keep one step ahead! Monday was make or draw something Disney and the girls fancied making another hair bow. As such we made The Queen of Hearts as she was one we’d been wanting to do for a while. On Tuesday it was Read Disney and so at bedtime we started a new book which is the 4th in the Never Girls series called “From the Mist”. The girls’ dad had also swapped from Tuesday to Wednesday and so we preempted Wednesday task which was to watch a random movie, and did that on Tuesday instead. The girls picked to watch The Princess Diaries which was fine by me as I love a good chick flick. On Wednesday we obviously didn’t technically do anything Disney but Megan and I were still working on Lily’s cake each night and that was Disney Tsum Tsum themed.

On Thursday it was Lily’s birthday and we had no specific task. However there was plenty of Disney to go around (no surprises there). Friday we were going to my mum’s to dinner, as she’d been away for almost two weeks. As such we didn’t remember to check the Disney task and couldn’t complete it. When we got home we found out it was to watch Sleeping Beauty but it was the girls’ bedtime so instead we just put it on the list for the next day. When we got up Saturday, we had plenty to do but we did fit in watching the movie. We also had to play a Disney game – which since we play Tsum Tsum most days, was no problem. Finally it was Sunday and we had dress up Disney. Lily was keen to wear her Silvermist costume that Megan bought for her birthday and Megan was stuck with Elsa yet again!

Disney Countdown – Days 51 – 45

February 15, 2015 by Bel

countdown

Monday (51) – Feb 9th – Read a Disney book
Tuesday (50) – Feb 10th – Play a Disney game
Wednesday (49) – Feb 11th – Make or Draw Disney
Thursday (48) – Feb 12th – Paint Aurora peg-doll
Friday (47) – Feb 13th – Make Disney inspired food
Saturday (46) – Feb 14th – Dress up Disney
Sunday (45) – Feb 15th – Watch Hunchback of Notre Dame

So this week has been a bit higgly piggly. Due to us being so busy, we’ve had to switch around tasks depending on where we are and what we’re doing. Majority of the week has been a different day’s task but we’ve mostly managed something at least each day! Monday was read a Disney book which we actually managed. We’re still carrying on with book 3 from the Never Girl series. Tuesday was play a Disney game, which we also managed – despite it being a Daddy day. The girls played on Disney Infinity in the car on the way to school. On Wednesday we were supposed to paint a peg-doll but switched it with the next day as the girls were staying at Grandma’s overnight. Instead on Wednesday they had to make or draw Disney which seems to have become a thing at Grandma’s recently! On Thursday when they were home, Megan painted the Aurora peg-doll, though she seems to be less and less happy with how they come out.

On Friday the kids were due to go to mum’s house overnight and she had planned to do some sort of Disney cake mix packet from Sainsbury’s. However the girls ended up off school for the day and not at mum’s, so I bought a packet mix instead and we made Mallow Minnie’s. On Saturday it was dress up Disney which we squeezed in between about 11.30am and 3.30pm. The girls had to get dressed regularly in the morning as we were going out for breakfast, then come home and change into dress-up clothes, before finally getting changed again as Lily had a party to go to. Finally came Sunday and we were set to watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame. However we had to take Chris to work (leaving around 11.30am), go out for lunch, go to my mum’s, fit in the movie in the afternoon, before taking Megan to a party at 4pm. Unfortunately when we got to mum’s, she had a friend there, who didn’t leave for almost another hour. This meant we couldn’t watch our DVD. As the girls went to their dad’s after Megan’s party, we were unable to watch it later too. As such, its been suspended till Tuesday when hopefully we’ll fit it in.

Week 40 – Monday Round-up

October 6, 2014 by Bel

In some ways this post feels a little repetitive as I did a “Stoptober” round up yesterday, that covered some of my week. However as its something I’ve done all year, I want to stick with it – documenting my week.

This week has ultimately been a good one. Monday through Friday was work and school, as mostly it is! Monday after school the girls had Singing Stars, so I headed to Boyes and bought some material, ready to do some dress sewing! I also picked up a couple of patterns. Sadly with Monday being a late evening back, I didn’t manage to get anything started – but I did spend the evening with Chris which was nice for a change.

Tuesday after work I had to pick up a parcel from Asda so called into see Chris before picking up the girls from school. I then headed home with them and after Megan getting some homework done and them both having dinner, we all went down to Aldi – the girls on their bikes and me walking. Somehow it seemed a little more stressful than last time and I definitely realised its time to get Lily biking and take off her stabilisers. Nat came around in the evening which was great as I love our weekly catch-ups. Chris was working late so we barely saw each other except for half an hour between him getting home and us going to bed.

Wednesday was the first day of my Stoptober and I was feeling great. I was up early and got my washing out before we headed to school and work. At work we celebrated Lincolnshire Day which made the day a little more interesting than normal. Afterwards there were no plans and Chris was off work so it was really great to all head home and be together. I got on top of my blogging, then organised the rest of the week – making a meal plan and also a blog post plan. The rest of the evening was spent watching TV with Chris.

Thursday morning started off with finding out the girls’ dad wouldn’t be having them that night and although it did change some of my plans, I wasn’t too worried – in fact I looked forward to the extra time. We headed out to work and school and afterwards when we came home, we all just hung out, had dinner etc. Megan set to making some loom bands for me (blog post to follow) and it was nice to spend some time just with her once Lily was in bed – especially since Chris was at work. Once the Megan was in bed too, I started on organising the dining room, putting up pictures and dress patterns for what I wanted to make and also sorting and tidying the table. Most important thing about Thursday though – its 6 months till we go to Florida!!

Friday I was still feeling good and motivated from my “Stoptober” challenges. I hung out more washing before we left for school, and had time to get to the Post Office and pick up parcels. After work the girls and I came home – Chris was at work yet again – and after dinner we ended up all making scrunchies together. Once Lily was in bed, Megan went on her computer and I started working properly on Olivia’s first dress – Cinderella. Sadly I didn’t get further than cutting out the pattern, especially as I was tracing out the pattern first in order to retain its size for future use. However I was happy with what I got done.

The next morning, although I originally woke up early, I was lucky enough to get back to sleep and not wake up till 10am. However from that point onwards, till about early afternoon, my morning was nothing but a disaster. I woke to open the door on our Disney and Universal park passes and after rushing to put them into “My Disney Experience” app, I managed to royally bodge up one of them. I spent an hour trying to fix it and getting more frustrated. I then headed to Aldi, dropped my keys, got soaked and then even dropped my shopping so it rolled under the car. I came home feeling even worse and when Chris offered to make me a bacon butty I burst into tears. In the end, after a bacon butty, I started to feel a little better. I spend the afternoon working on Olivia’s dress and when I ran out of the right colour fabric, I considered driving all the way over to Lincoln to get some.

However in the end I didn’t bother as time disappeared faster than I expected. During the afternoon I also organised our next three murder mysteries and we’re sorted up till Christmas! Nat came around to visit again in the evening – mostly cos I’d had a bad day and she wanted to see if I was okay. She brought me Lush and as always it was great to have her here and catch up, even though it was only Tuesday when she’d last come. Since Nat was here, Chris invited Jon around and with him came wine. Due to another mishap (which I won’t get into) and ending up upset again, I caved to a very small glass of wine and felt much better for it.

Sunday morning we were awake at 8am and while it would have been possible to go back to sleep, I decided to get up instead. Chris and I sat and watched Mythbusters and drank a cup of tea while we came around. Then at 10am I went to Aldi and bought food for a Sunday Roast. I spent majority of the time until lunchtime, prepping and cooking, but the time I had in between I started to stitch dress two for Olivia – Sleeping Beauty.

Mum came around in time for lunch, so we all sat down to eat together. Once lunch was over, mum helped Megan with her homework (for hours) while Chris went up on his computer and I did more sewing. Eventually Megan and Mum were done but she then offered to do Lily’s maths homework with her so I gladly excepted. When I ran out of material again, I took another break from sewing, knowing I couldn’t do anything more until I get to Boyes again after work on Monday. Instead I went on my computer for the first time all day – made my 52 Project post and my Week 1 Stoptober post. Once Lily was in bed, Chris, Megan and I sat and watched Next Great Baker and then Megan went to bed. Chris went for a bath and continued to be organised by writing this post, ready for the next day (today). I watched Casualty (and cried at the end) followed by Doctor Who – while Chris went for a bath. Afterwards I went for a bath myself and then settled down to organise the rest of the week, both meal plans and my blog post topics.

During this week I’ve felt so much more organised than I ever have before. While I’m not 100% on top of everything, I have done things that have been outstanding for a while. Monday and Tuesday I want to crack on with getting sewing finished (I at least want Olivia’s 2 dresses done), then probably a day on my blog again, before making sure I have everything else sorted and organised. As well as all that, I’ve been managing to read a bit more this week too. I’m currently reading Insurgent (Divergent’s second book) and I’m enjoying it a lot. Every morning I stick the book in my bag so that if I have any time between work and picking the kids up, I can sit in the car and read. Like I said before, all in all, a good week. I’m feeling very positive and looking forward to another good week.
